Carlo Balemans is an award-winning conductor, composer, and entrepreneur with over 40 years of experience in different musical styles. He has been a professor at Codarts University Rotterdam for 18 years and has experience with both amateur and professional companies.
He lives as a nomad, currently residing in Medellín, Colombia.

A musical journey through the mountains of Argentina
SPACE & ADVENTURE
Carlo Balemans has been traveling around the world as a nomad since 2018, seeking out adventure with a bare minimum of possessions. The most recent one, a trek through the Andes mountains in Argentina, served as the model for his composition "SPACE - The Adventure": an unusual trek and an unusual orchestral score.
Temperatures fluctuated from 6 to 43 degrees within a 24-hour period, from wind force 1 to 6 within seconds, there was drought, but also heavy rain resulting in mudslides. All this between 1500 and 4300 meters altitude in a tent.
Guts, a sense of humor, confidence, and curiosity: important qualities when stepping out of your comfort zone. Adventure is what it's all about, the basis for 'SPACE - The Adventure'.
COMPOSITION
The composition is a 45-minute musical adventure for HaFaBra orchestra, with SPACE for your own initiative, SPACE for your audience, SPACE for shared leadership, and SPACE for integrating your environment.
Instrumentation will be made to the characteristics of your orchestra. In four workshops, Carlo will help you live this musical adventure to the fullest: from simplicity to the greatest heights!

Building a bridge between DAW-orientated and orchestral musicians
Do you make your own music in your DAW? Have you always wanted to collaborate with an orchestra? Or are you an orchestra looking to connect with young people making music with their computers? If you wish to broaden your musical horizons, then MIDIATORS is the ideal project for you.
Whether you prefer reading sheet music or playing by ear, in the end, we all do the same thing: we make music. Carlo Balemans is your ideal MIDIATOR, guiding all sorts of musicians from all over the world in their musical communication. So, how does it work?
TEAMWORK
Together, you and your squad will create surprising compositions and performances, supervised in an online workspace. Carlo will focus on your wishes, and you will find a way to reach your common goal: blowing away the audience!
FINANCES
The cost of the MIDIATORS project will be determined after the negotiation of your needs, goals, and background. After coming to a custom-made arrangement, you will receive a personal contract and you are good to go!
WHAT SHOULD I KNOW?
Knowledge of music notation or MIDI is not necessary. If you are a respectful, positive musician with a sense of adventure and humor, this project is for you. Carlo can guide you in English and Dutch. If Spanish is your first language, but you speak A-level English, Carlo can also provide support in a combination of English and Spanish.

Learn to conduct your own compositions
Have you always wanted to learn how to conduct your own work? Then you are at the right place! In these individual online lessons, you will write your own personal plan and get to your destination together with professor Carlo Balemans.
WHO ARE THESE LESSONS FOR?
These classes are for composers of all levels, whether you are a professional, a student, or an amateur. Depending on your level, we will lay out a different journey.
Beginner conductors: You will be taught basic conducting techniques, and be introduced to score studies and we will develop your internal musical systems, such as rhythm, tempo, chord, and phrasing feel.
Semi-experienced conductors: We will teach you rehearsal techniques, ways to build up reliable conducting skills, and score studies while going further into your internal musical systems.
Experienced conductors: Besides perfecting your conducting technique, score studies, and reflecting on your rehearsals with musicians, we will focus on the mastery of your internal musical control system.
ABOUT THE LESSONS
In these classes, you will learn more about conducting techniques, partiture studies, and the power of your musical imagination. Together with your teacher, you will make a game plan tailored to your creative and musical needs, getting to your goal one step at a time. Every student has unlimited access to educational videos about conducting techniques and internal musical development. You will record your homework sessions which we will reflect upon during the class. Carlo can guide you in English and Dutch. If Spanish is your first language, but you speak A-level English, Carlo can also provide support in a combination of English and Spanish.
PRICE & PAYMENT
Your personal plan will determine the final price. The general guidelines are:
Europe & North America: $50 an hour
Africa & South America: $10 an hour
All include VAT, excluding possible bank transfer fees.
